Animism

The term animism comes from the Latin word anima meaning "life" or "soul".

The word commonly refers to a belief system that ascribes the soul (and the awareness and personality that goes along with it) not only to humans but also to other non-human life and sometimes to inanimate objects, natural phenomena and geographic features (like forests, springs, rivers, mountains) as well.
