The Covenant of the Goddess (aka CoG) is a Wiccan advocacy organization formed in 1975 and comprised of autonomous member covens and solitary practitioners throughout the country. Its purpose is to promote the recognition of Wicca as a legitimate religious faith and ensure that individual Wiccans and Wiccan covens enjoy the same rights, freedoms and benefits of any other religion. It promotes these goals by offering a clergy ordination program for its members, encouraging networking and cooperation, publishing a newsletter and sponsoring the annual Merry Meet festival as well as the People of the Earth Conference. CoG also offers its members opportunities to support Wiccans in the military through a variety of programs. CoG was instrumental in the addition of Wicca to various miliatary chaplain handbooks, writing some of the earliest drafts of thesesections. They also participate in the Order of the Pentacle and were active particpants in the Pentacle Quest.
CoG encourages youth activity with several awards including The Hart and Crescent Award the Over the Moon program and CoG's Distinguished Youth Service Award.
