Writers Guidelines

The Witchipedia is an online encyclopedia of Witchcraft, occult, magick and Pagan information. Articles should be informational and specific to the topic, which is also the title and link to the article. To get an idea of what we are looking for specifically, visit http://www.witchipedia.com/wanted-pages. Bloglike articles, tips & hints, opinion articles, etc. are not appropriate for the Witchipedia.

Witchipedia is a Wiki so anyone with access to the editor can edit and update any of the pages on the site. This is not the place to write a masterpiece and you will not be given alot of specific credit for individual articles. You may list the articles you've initiated on your profile page and you may sign your articles if you like, but be aware that they will probably be edited by someone else at some point.

Plagiarism
We do check for plagiarism periodically. All articles must be original. If you have an article about a topic on another site you may not copy it exactly; you must reword the article or remove it from the other site. If plagiarism is picked up, you'll be notified and if you do not take action within a day or two someone else will edit your article for you. We understand that what a web crawler picks up as plagiarism may be merely coincidence, but we will still require a rewrite. If you find an article on the Witchipedia that you believe is not original, please contact moc.oohay|aidepihctiw#moc.oohay|aidepihctiw right away.

Feeds
You are welcome to include feeds in your pages where appropriate. These feeds may include titles, post dates and summaries only and may not include full texts of any articles. The titles must be linked to the original page the feed came from and the full URL of the page the feed came from must be mentioned on the page. This rule applies even when you are using your own feed.

Editing Existing Pages

While you may edit any site on the page, we ask that you do it respectfully. Correct grammar, add some additional information, etc. Total rewrites are rarely necessary. Adding additional resources and information, photos, etc. is always appreciated. If you feel that a page needs to be completely rewritten, contact the admin at moc.oohay|aidepihctiw#moc.oohay|aidepihctiw before you proceed.

Advertising

You are welcome to include links to other websites, products, etc., even affiliate links, if the links can reasonably be said to enhance the usefulness of the article to the reader (For example if you were doing an article on a person and they wrote several books you could include Amazon affiliate links to the books they had written. Or if you have a website that has further information about something you are writing an article about, you can link to your website.) You may also advertise whatever you wish on your profile page. We allow you this privilege so that our volunteer writers might benefit a little bit from their hard work. Anyone abusing this privilege will be banned for spam.

What to Write

Many writers choose to take over a "section" of the site. If you are interested in doing this we can set you up. For examples of "sections" that one person is in charge of check out http://www.witchipedia.com/herblore or http://www.witchipedia.com/crystal-lore. You will be responsible for populating the section with related articles and editing articles submitted by other people that can be said to fit in your section. It is important to note that even if you are in charge of a section, anyone else with editing access can still edit it.

We are currently seeking individuals to populate the following topics with content:

  • Numerology
  • Tarot (And other forms of cartomancy)
  • Astrology
  • Overviews of different Pagan traditions
  • Famous Pagans in History
  • Important Events in Pagan History
  • Runes

If you are stuck for something to write, visit our wanted pages page for some suggestions.
